Lottie Moon Christmas Offering
The first offering for foreign missions began in 1888, answering a request from Lottie Moon to send more missionaries to China. She suggested a week of prayer and an offering at Christmas. The women of WMU collected $3,315.26 in 1889, enough to send three missionaries to assist Lottie. An offering for foreign missions has been taken ever since that time. Woman's Missionary Union continues to promote this offering and sets the goals for giving to international missions.
More information on the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering my be found at the International Mission Board website.
